Vince Bommarito fights off attackers who flee with briefcase and shoes

Tony's boniface, Vince Bommarito, was attacked by two men outside of his house on Arundel Place about 10:30 p.m. on Monday night but after a brief scuffle the men ran off with his briefcase and a bag of shoes he had in his car."I'm scratched up a bit and have a few bruises but I've had bruises and scratches before," Bommarito said Thursday. "I've lived in that house for 47 years and I've never had anybody look at me crooked before."

Bommarito, who is nearly 80, said he was getting his belongings out of the back seat of his car when the men attacked him.MBT Shoes Clearance - The Anti-Shoe at Low cost Charges He said he managed to kick and squirm and then bite one of the attackers on the hand before they took his briefcase and the shoes and ran off.

A police report on the incident says Bommarito was hit in the face and knocked to the grass by the suspects who then left in a newer model, white full-size pickup truck they had parked nearby. The report added that Bommarito had a minor laceration above his lip but refused medical attention.

Bommarito said the men had bandanas over their faces and tore his pants while trying to get his wallet out of his back pocket -- only Bommarito didn't have a wallet in his back pocket. He said they tore his watch off his wrist but dropped it during the scuffle and that he found it later.

The most valuable thing he lost was his address book, which Bommarito said would be nearly impossible to duplicate. He lauded the police for finding it and calling him about 3 a.m. on Tuesday morning to report that they had recovered the book. He said the robbers also took a checkbook out of the briefcase and two of the three pairs of shoes that were in the bag."They left the Gucci's," Bommarito said. "I guess they didn't know what they had."Bommarito is a former St. Louis Police Board Commissioner who resigned last year after admitting he'd interceded on behalf of a nephew arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Mardi Gras. He had nothing but praise for the way the police handled his situation on Monday.
